Here is a list of favorite destinations assembled by the Northern Minnesota staff. These are the most visible sites with high degrees of staffing and support. Experience Northern Minnesota!
- Pine to Prairie Birding Trail
- Come vist this series of 40+ birding pearls all connected by existing infrastucture. Minnesota's first birding trail and it has become wildly popular.
- Itasca State Park
- Lake Itasca is the birthplace of the Mighty Mississippi that winds 2,552 miles to the Gulf of Mexico. Visit Itasca and walk across the one of North America's greatest rivers.
- Glacial Ridge Project
- This project is the larges prairie and wetland restoration in the history of the country. Over a township (36 square miles, 23,000+ acres) will be restored to near pre-settlement vegetation. The project started in 2000. Watch it grow!
- Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge
- Following restoration, The Nature Conservancy will turn over ownership to the FWS as the Glacial Ridge Project becomes Glacial Ridge NWR.
- Red Lake River Corridor Project
- Discover northwest Minnesota on the Red Lake River, a tributary of the Red River of the North. Canoeing the river is an enjoyable experience for both beginning and experienced canoeists.
